Yes, I routinely leave children unattended on counter tops. Why?

Just kidding.  sorta.  I had just finished painting Sammy's toenails Fire Engine Red (thinking of you, Papa!) and she needed to stay there until they dried and not walk around on the white-ish carpet.  And no, I did not let her paint mine.
