A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away

A long time ago, I read or was told or heard on tv or maybe I'm making this up, that threats and bribery had no place in child rearing.  Hmm...interesting, I thought.  Tell me more.  You should never use threats such as, "If you don't eat your liver, you won't get any dessert!"  or "If you don't clean up your room, I'll give all your toys to children in Apalachia!"  (Like my toddlers knew what or where Apalachia was.)  Anyway, I learned early on that wherever I got that sage piece of advice never had children of their own.  Threats and bribery became a way of life in our house, only we didn't call it threats or bribery, for that matter.  We called it raising a family.  And thank God and Greyhound Mommy and Daddy are doing it the same way we did.  In this photo, Sammy is showing me a piece of chocolate that she gets when she uses the potty chair with results!  Threats?  Bribery?  Oh, yes we do.

  2. I remember the jar of M&M's on the back of the toilet during the potty training days of my two products of threats and bribery...
